The Behind the Blogger Book Tag

Hey guys! Welcome to another book tag!

Today I’ll be doing the “Behind the Blogger” book tag. I was tagged by Ashlee at Books Are 42 and this tag was originally created by Ellyn at Allonsythornraxx.

When I first started blogging a little over a year ago, I did the BookTube Book Blog Newbie Tag as a way to introduce myself to the book blogging community. I guess this is going to be a yearly tradition where I re-introduce myself and share a little bit more about me. I don’t know. Maybe? We’ll see!

And now, let’s get to the questions!

1. Why did you start blogging & Why have you kept blogging?

Generally speaking, I started this blog because I love art. Books. Movies. Writing. Art. I love making things just as much as I love watching people create things. I get inspired or I learn something new from seeing what other people do, so I wanted to showcase my own thoughts and ideas, my own content. Everyone has a story to tell and I wanted to share mine through my artistic passions in hopes to inspire or teach someone who might enjoy the same things I do.

To cater my response more so to the book blogging side, I blog about books because I love reading and I love talking about books. To me, books are a form of art because someone wrote it, someone created it, someone turned an idea into a physical masterpiece. I loved watching BookTube in high school and I wanted to be a part of the conversation and share my own bookish thoughts, though I was too scared to start up a BookTube channel because I’m shy. I know the best way to express myself is through writing, so I decided that blogging would be the way to go. And for someone who had no social media growing up, this was complete unknown territory for me.

I keep blogging because it’s fun. It’s different from writing works of fiction and it helps me step out of my comfort zone. It also gives me a chance to write and for someone to actually read my work! I’ve always been shy or too scared to speak up and voice my own thoughts or opinions, so I feel like this is a good way to practice within my own little safe space.

2. What is your favourite type of blog post to write?

I really like book tags! I just think they’re so fun and creative and a good way to show off what books you’ve read or have yet to read. And I love seeing what books people use for their answers. I find it’s a good and easy way to find book recommendations too.

I also like any blog post where I can take pictures of my books and do a bookstagram-like photoshoot with them because I feel like that is my way to express my love for art and books at once. I’m not a professional photographer nor do I have any background in photography but I think it’s fun and creative!

(This gif below is literally me while I take pictures of my books)

3. What are your top 3 favourite blog posts?

My Descendants 3 Movie Review was one of my favourites! I absolutely LOVE the movie and I loved writing about it! Oh and listening to the music while writing it!

Another favourite is my latest post, the “I Should Have Read That” Book Tag. I loved taking those photos of my books.

I really liked how I had to think outside of the box when it came to representing certain books in my photos. For instance, I used aluminum foil and a paintbrush to create a weapon that best described one of the books I chose. I also found a red beaded necklace from my Grade 8 graduation (something from Dollarama or Party City, I’m assuming) and I used it to represent “beads of blood”. In my opinion, I thought the photos turned out really well.

I also enjoyed writing My Summer Reading Challenge. As you already know, I love having any excuse to take pictures of my books and I loved taking pictures of them outside. Nature is my infinite canvas. Plus, I wrote the plot summaries of these books in a super fun and quirky way so it was, overall, a fun post!

4. What are some of your favourite things to do to relax?

I like to draw, read, listen to music and watch movies. Sometimes I write, though I wouldn’t say writing is relaxing because the majority of my writing assignments have been academic essays and creative writing can be equally as stressful. But if I have an essay due and it’s stressing me out, I would pull up a document and write a story to ease my mind.

I would also say buying books is relaxing but spending lots of money, however, is not.

But, I mean … this picture isn’t wrong.

5. What are 3 of your favourite things?

I’m trying to avoid repeating myself because Question 4 pretty much sums up my favourite things so I’m going to go with desserts, bubble tea and reality TV (anyone else fans of the 90 Day Fiancé or The Bachelor franchise?).

6. What are your proudest blogging moments?

In December, I wrote my first (and only) ARC review for a book called BirthRights by Carly Rheilan. I thought it was cool that I was contacted to review the book. It made me feel somewhat special, especially when I’ve seen and read so many other bloggers and booktubers who received ARCs and shared ARC reviews. I kind of felt like my baby blog was in the big leagues haha!

You can check out my review for BirthRights here.

7. What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

I enjoy reading, writing stories, watching movies, listening to music and baking! Baking is a new hobby of mine that was taken up during the quarantine and it is SO. MUCH. FUN! I wanted to test out my skills in the kitchen, and so far, I’ve been receiving positive reviews from my family. I haven’t tried making real food so I think I’m going to live off of sugar for the rest of my life.

8. Describe your personality in 3 words

Shy

Creative

Perfectionist (especially when it comes to school!)

9. What are your top 3 pet peeves?

I don’t like it when people don’t work hard. I know it’s not my business and you do you, but because I am the type of person that puts 110% in everything I do, when other people don’t put in the same amount of effort it kind of … bothers me? I don’t know, I think I’m bitter about it because I’ve had way too many group projects where I did most of the work. Oh gosh, I hope this doesn’t come across judgey. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Also, I’ve grown to dislike when people mix up my name and my sister’s name (I’m looking at you, Mom and Dad). Our names both start with the letter A but I personally don’t think our names are similar. It sucks because I’ve had my parents get mad at me, only for them to realize a second later that they called out to the wrong daughter.

And on top of that, my parents tend to mix up my interests with my sisters’, even though we are the complete opposites.

(Just for the record, my sister and I are not twins, I just thought this gif was relatable)

And I’ll add a bookish pet peeve here: I don’t like having mismatched book covers so when a book series comes out with new covers and the old ones practically go extinct, I hate how I have to hunt down the old covers in order to complete my series. I tend to prefer original covers, especially when I own a few them to begin with. Oh, and when the book cover changes in the middle of a series … no, I can’t even think about it!

10. What’s something that your followers don’t know about you?

I listen to music when I read. I feel like to some people it’s a hit or miss. Some people might like it and others might be like, what the heck is wrong with you? But I enjoy it. I imagine books as a movie and movies often have music in the background to set the tone of the scene so I like listening to music to enhance the tone in the book. I find it to be an immersive experience that keeps me engaged.

And when it comes to music, I enjoy listening to anything, whether it be classical, rock, pop, country, R&B, EDM, Celtic music, gothic rock (also known as symphonic rock) and symphonic electronic (classical music mixed with electronic).

And that’s the end of the book tag!

Thank you to BooksAre42 for tagging me and to Ellyn at Allonsythornraxx for creating this tag!

  1. I am a bookworm. On top of reading books, I also am writing some- all children’s books. I always have had this gigantic imagination.

I love art as well: I love how musical theatre is a combo of various arts. Also on top of being a bookworm, I am a musical fanatic as well.

As for other hobbies, collect playbills, collect snow globes, listening to music and coloring
